By the end of this session, you will be able to:- Understand individual responses to conflict and the impact on conflict dynamics. - Explain the mediation process including fundamental concepts of self-determination, confidentiality, voluntary nature, and the role of the mediator to interested parties.- Develop mediator skills such as: active listening, asking questions, summarizing, paraphrasing, reframing, overcoming impasse, managing emotions, and writing agreements.- Examine professional responsibilities for mediators including standards of ethics and avoiding the unauthorized practice of law.- Apply the principles of the facilitative mediation process and mediator techniques to resolve issues.Activities include: self-paced readings; lectures; videos; discussion in large and small groups; individual reflection activities; practice activities in pairs and groups; and role-play simulations practice.
